Vinegar is one of the oldest seasonings in the world. The first mention of vinegar in literature goes back to 5000 BC when it was made from date palm or raisin.
Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, noted the antibacterial effect of vinegar and used it to treat respiratory diseases, skin disease and coughs during the 4th century.
Balsamic vinegar was first produced in Italy in 11th century.
Nowadays, different countries have vinegars made from their indigenous crops. For example; oat vinegar in Korea, malt vinegar in UK, wine vinegar in Europe, cider vinegar in UK & US, rice vinegar in Japan and coconut vinegar in the Philippines.
